In March of this year the Forum held a half-day ‘Lessons from the Case Law Conference’. This provided information on the practical lessons learned from the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) Case Law to date, in both Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The conference was delivered by Richard Steele, Senior Lecturer in Law at Queen’s University, Belfast, who is also an independent trainer in law and employment practice and an advisor to the Forum Board.
Delegates had the opportunity to submit their questions in advance of the conference and these were addressed by an expert panel made up of Tony Earley, Queens University Belfast, Harry McConnell, Equality Commission for Northern Ireland, Trevor Greene, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, and Richard Steele.
Tony Steed from Northern Ireland Housing Executive gave a presentation about the Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s many and varied initiatives toward implementing good practice.
The conference was very well received and it is thought that a similar conference could be facilitated later next year.
The Forum is a network of employers—drawn from the public, private, and voluntary sectors—working to promote training and employment opportunities and accessibility for people with disabilities as employees and customers.
