The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) has published the findings of a UK-wide survey which highlights the difficulties people with hearing impairments experience in the workplace. This was reported in the June 2006 issue of Equal Opportunities Review (Number 153).

It is essential that all employers are aware of these disturbing statistics and, importantly, that they take action to ensure that they improve employment opportunities for people with hearing disabilities. All employers should implement measures to make sure that deaf employees are supported in work, that they feel included and do not experience harassment.
