Let's Work Project

What is the Let's Work project?

Disability Services and Careers Service at Queen's University established a 3-year project to enhance employment opportunities for students with disabilities. The project is currently being run by Disability Services, Careers Service and the Student Support Services at Queen's University Belfast.   Paul McLennan, Careers Adviser (Disability) was appointed in July 2006 to help develop and deliver the project.

The main aims and objectives of this project are:

•  To address the fact that there are limited opportunities for work experience for students with disabilities.

•  To improve the existing provision for students with disabilities which takes into account the promoting of opportunities for students with disabilities, to build key skills including IT skills; personal skills; career management and employability skills at each stage of their academic development, from first year to leaving university.

•  To develop work placements for students with disabilities using links within the University and through external organisations such as The Employers' Forum on Disability in Northern Ireland .

•  To help students with disabilities develop individual careers plans that will make the most of their potential and enable them to overcome barriers in the graduate job market.

•  To offer support and advice to Queen's graduates with disabilities for up to two years after leaving university.

What has the Let's Work project got to offer students with disabilities?

The project endeavours to:

•  Boost job searching skills, through advice and training through individual meetings and workshops
•  In association with the Careers Service, introduce students with disabilities to employers relevant to their career aspirations
